Location: Wahpeton, ND (right across the river from Breckenridge, MN)
Date: All Day Saturday May 3rd
Who: www.eciyouth.org
The ECI group of Wahpeton is going to host a paintball tournament on Saturday May 3rd. It will be an all day event. CO2 and bathroom facilities will be provided along with a concession stand. Markers will be available for rent and paintballs will be available to buy. It will be located on a 32 acre patch on the north side of Wahpeton. This will be the first paintball tournament that we have hosted and we need your help. What I need from you is any input that you might have towards bettering the event. What kind of food would you like to see? How much should we charge for the entrance fee? Should we base our tournament on different divisions? We are currently looking at 3-man teams and running multiple fields at once. Throw any ideas you have at me. Please post if you are able to attend and how many people you can get to come as we need to get an idea of how large this is going to be. Bring anyone you know. This is meant to be a family orientated day with people of all ages and all experience levels. We are going to reach out to the whole region. We also have the full support of the local law enforcement as most of them paintball too. Also through my contacts in the law enforcement we have access to many things such as impounded cars that can be used as cover on the field. What I really want to know is, what do you want from this tournament? How can we make this something great? Tell me anything that comes into your head. Contact me at aaronpeterson147@hotmail.com.

i think entry should be 20-30$ a piece..meaning 60-90$ per team. Have some kick a$$ prizes or cash prizes....being as this is 3 man- there is a lot more pride in the game since its just 3 people ballin it up rather than 5 or 7. Paint should be reasonably priced....50-60$ a case possibly. Otherwise have good field setups- switch it up on the different fields. I will be going....family possibly might go. HAVE THE COPS MAKE A TEAM SO WE CAN OWN THEM!!!!!!!

dont do APPA because then locals cant really come out......unless you do beginner and rookie teams just show up and sign up- and then have like novice/amateur if youll have it on APPA since they know about it more than the first year players

Divisions will be split up into Beginner, Rookie, and Novice.
Beginner= no or limited tournament experience
Rookie= less than two years of tourney experience
Novice= lots of experience, been balling for a few years, more than two years tourney experience
I don't exactly know what APPA registration is because I've always played woodsball with friends. Can someone breifly explain the concept?
It will be BYOP (bring your own paint), but we will have some for sale for those who havent played or just simply run out.
Here's what I'm think for entrance fee.
3 man teams
Beginner - $45 per team ($15 per player)
Rookie - $50 per team (about $16 per player)
Novice - $60 per team ($20 per player)
We will be paying out cash prizes. I'm not sure how much but for example if we kept 20% to pay for our expenses and paid the remaining 80% out it would look something like this.
We get 20 teams for each division
That would be $900 for Beginner, $1000 for Rookie, and $1200 for Novice.
If we did the 20/80, that would give us a total of $620 for our expenses and $2480 to be split up for the divisions. Now I would make the novice guys prizes bigger than the beginners. I would also throw in some boxes of paint or something for prizes. So it would be like this. (note-this is not final, its just an example and these numbers are courtesy of Trevor Olsen)
Beginner
1st = $200
2nd = $150
3rd = $100
Rookie
1st = $400
2nd = $350
3rd = $300
Novice
1st = $500
2nd = $450
3rd = $400
The more people we get there the higher numbers will be so invite everyone you know.
At first we were looking at multiple different fields running at the same time. They will be organized based on the scenario... Speedball, CTF, Etc. But now it may be held a few minutes out of town at a place that is set up for paintballing with towers and stuff. I haven't seen it yet, that is the way my boss made it sound. I also want to have a field set aside so that those eliminated from the tournament will still be able to play games at their own leisure.
Yes, go ahead and bring your "diving gear". That goes for anything else as well. Bring whatever you want if only just to show it off.
With in the next few days, after the major decisions have been made, I will begin registering teams.
Now I need help on creating an itinerary for the day. Shoot some ideas at me. Would a simple round robin be best?

to pb4life:
depends on where we decide the final location.
it will be more woodsball if we switch it to the place mentioned in the post above.
if we chose a more open patch we will bring in impounded vehicles, pallets, 55 gallon drums, inflatables... pretty much anything that we think would work
don't worry... i will let u know far enough ahead of time so that you are prepared

note to everyone:
Since we won't have any papers on the players we will let them choose their own class. If a cocky first timer wants to spend the extra money just to get their butt kicked by a vet than thats fine with me. The classes will be there just as a guideline for people to decide what level of play they can handle.
We will also have a field set aside for people who do not want to enter in the tournament so that they can play at their own pace and just have fun. If you know of anyone who doesn't want to compete let them know that they can still come and have fun.

Here is everything as of right now:
This is the best possible location...
http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w72/Peteyson/westofBAC.jpg
Red are the possible areas of play. Purple is parking. Blue x is our activity center. Pink x and dot are bleechers.
The problem we face is that this is on campus grounds and we need the go ahead from them. I have talked several members of the board and they were all enthusiastic about the idea. All it takes though is one person who doesn't like the idea to turn everything around. My hopes are high because the idea for a paintball tourney was originally brought up by members of the Campus Activity Board and Student Senate. We have asked them to make decision quick because we need to get a location locked down before we can start strongly marketing. Our secondary location is a woodsball field of 22 acres just outside of Kent, ND. We would prefer to have it in town to maximize attendance, but either way the tournament is going to happen.
The big red area is approximately 300 yds by 150 yds and I would like to have maybe 3 or 4 fields going simultaneously possibly 60 x 90. I think that it provides enough room with plenty to spare for observation, etc.
The smaller red area is the football field for the college and the highschool so in order to gain that piece we would also need the highschool's approval.
It is BYOP (bring your own paint) and equipment.
HPA and and CO2 will be supplied all day for those playing. Balls will be available for purchase and equipment for rent.
Bunkers will vary from vehicles, barrels, balloons, pallets, and whatever else suits.
Tournament style will most likely be round-robin with teams paying and registering as they show up. It has been reccomended that I use APPA registration but I do not have a league name and would like the tournament to be more casual and fun rather than strict.
Misconduct will not be tolerated, you will be escorted off the premises.
Everyone is welcome, even if you do not want to play.
Keep the ideas and questions coming. This is our first tournament of many and we can only learn from this.
(this is all subject to change, i will keep you posted)

Have you taken into account that you will need netting and stuff? Also, I am willing to bet that a lot of the stuff that you want to use as bunkers (vehicles and stuff) will tear up the grass there, which I doubt the school will be happy with. What you should really do is look into something like the MWPPA uses. They have a full netting setup that can be put up anywhere and sup'air bunkers that won't damage the grass and are easy to set up. Stuff like that will probably go a long way toward helping you get approval.

Great News!!! The college just okayed the use of their practice field so we have locked in a sure location.
We have aquired a few sponsors including Tippmann.
Now we are going over the details such as cost , when it will begin, registration, etc.
I will keep the forum up-to-date and I apologize if I am away for a couple days. I'm heading to Atlanta, GA until Wednesday. I do have my computer with so it shouldn't be a problem.

We still need bunkers so if anyone has anything to use we would love the help.

Pricing is $10/session or $18/day
Equipment rental is $10/session
Paintballs will be $10/500
Cash Prizes are an option, but it will mostly be items donated by sponsors. Tippmann has supplied us with t-shirts, hats, and barrel condoms for example. This is a charitable event so any revenue will go towards the ONE24 Coffee House community center being built in Wahpeton. Cash prizes won't be huge and be subject to raffle and possibly top 3 teams from the tournament.
The tournament will be a round-robin style with teams signing up as they come or they can pre-register with me to garauntee a spot. Since the day is now seperated into 2 sessions and it is now a 2 day event it will be possible to have 3-man and 5-man tournaments.
Setup will be 4 fields. 2 for the tournament and 2 for random play to keep the action going.
I tried to attach the registration form to this post, but it is an excel file and would not work. Please e-mail me with your information so I can get you registered.

Thanks for pre-registering.
To answer your question. If it helps, think of the whole event as recball because there will be a lot of beginners and the tournaments are purely for bragging rights. The top 3-man and 5-man teams of both days will get prizes, a team arriving late will have less chance to win as many games therefore making it harder for them to become the top team. Please don't confuse this event with one such as the I-29 tournament. This is to promote paintball in the region, raise funds for the new community center in Wahpeton, and for everyone (beginners to the most experienced players) to just come out and have fun. Good music, good food, and paintball. How much better does it get? Also, its free to come and just hangout so tell everyone you know even if they don't want to play.
