I talked to vince a few days ago and it sounds like there is going to be a lot of teams playing. I guess a ton of teams have been signing up and more keep calling in. But he said if any people have questions just call. He has all the info. Don't be afraid of the phone.
and they don't have any AM tournaments because 10 rookie teams will sign up for every 1 AM team. 10 times more teams means 10 times more income from entry and 10 times more paint bought that is usually marked up 200-300% for tournaments. Plus I think chris has officially bumped every MN players ranking down by now. so I'm sure those who haven't gotten bumped down by now can be the 1 AM player on the NOV team.

Really? How many successful tournaments have you put on in the last 6 years? I've done 14.
You can have an AM division at any event and have the divisions mixed. This allows for MAXIMUM profit and exposure at any local event. Even if only a handful of AM teams show up, thats still "X" amount more games with "Y" amount more paint shot at "300%" (hah) markup.
Then again, if we're talking "Best Baller", why are the best in MN being excluded? Wouldn't we just have it "open" and let the guns do the talking?
This is both a personal issue for me and a matter of principle.
1. I want to bomb internet paintball players (ie YOU) on balloons, trenches, berms, pipes, etc..
2. I want to see MN tournament paintall return to its heyday when 60+ 3man teams would show up for a Polar Bear. With a 1/4 of them playing AMATUER! GASP!

That sounds like a lot of fun... 60 teams??? wow. I hope to experience an event like that someday.

It used to be that when you went to a tournament (national or local), your division would be made up of ~1 pro, 2 am, 2-3 nov, and 2-3 rookie (Advanced, nov a, and nov b for local) teams. You would play each of these teams once and then scores would be totaled up. The cutoff to advance was usually almost 100% wins for pros, and went down as you dropped in each difficulty. Semis were divided by level, but this allowed tournaments to run an advanced or pro division even if there weren't as many teams in it. It did mean that rookie teams lost a lot more, but since all the rookie teams were losing it wasn't a big deal.
Segregating the different levels, like they do in the PSP or NPPL is a great idea when each skill level has plenty of teams, but at events where there aren't enough, why can't we go back to doing it like in the old days? Its pretty sad to see the total lack of high end competition in MN now, noone wants to play AM, whereas when I first started in Novice B, it seemed like everyone wanted to work their way up to the top. If 10 rookie teams sign up for every AM team, put 1 AM team in each division and then let them have their own semifinals.
And yeah, I want 60+ teams again too, and a full AM division at every local event. The first event I played was 65ish teams.
And just for reference, I played the 2003 Philadelphia PSP and had to play Aftershock I think, and a couple good AM teams. We got our butts kicked but I learned a ton.

The 60 team local tournaments weren't really that long ago. 4 or 5 years or so I think?
Here's something to consider. 60 teams in 3 division, 57 teams are not winning the tournament. 51 teams aren't Placing in the tournament. There were long standing teams that NEVER won, NEVER placed, just came to play and have a good time. If they placed a bit higher than they did the previous tournament, then it was a good day.
These days, a team doesn't routinely make the top 3 in a tournament and half the members will up and quit the sport (not just stop playing tournaments, but completely stop playing paintball at all). They feel that being a 'tournament baller' means they have to 'play to win', and if they don't win, then it's a waste of time to play.
Those teams that do win or place consistently, well a mere local tournament becomes a waste of time, they could be playing national tournaments. So they stop playing the locals and play a national event or two. Of course they probably don't win or place there, so it becomes a waste of time to play at all again.
Honestly, we need to add a little 'rec' attitude. It was there before, in all the teams that would place in the bottom quarter of the rankings but kept coming back. That attitude is lost now.

I agree, and the events Brent and I are talking about were in 2000 and 2001 as far as I can remember. I know that is when I started and the Polar Bears were huge. There were big events and a strong AM division more recently than that though.

Haha, I was carrying 14 for 7-man. A lot of 10-man back players carried 15+, it was awesome.
15 in my pack, one in my pocket, and a "football". Single-finger LCD with a 114/45.
Thug life.

Footballs are 10-man. That and stuff like pod holding tank covers and other ammo carrying stuff.

We should be able to help solve this problem :)
Look for another complete update from the MWPPA very shortly!

Awesome, now lets see some teams step up. I guess a more accurate title is MN needs more AM teams to play AM events...

most of the people who would play AM division are reffing the mwppa.

What type of Am tournament? I am hosting a 3 man on the 21st gear towards entry level players. Low entry only $80 paint is $65 and air is included plus you get $20 off your team paint bill if you pre-register online. Plus you only need 3 guys to play and a max of 6 on your roster.
I would like to think that we are a fun tourney and relative cheap. Plus that night we are having a street dance later that night at our town festival

MN needs more Am divisions in tournaments? well why didn't any sign up for the first MWPPA? i would love to see some Am teams play againest each other. but i don't see that happening any time soon. I hope i'm wrong though.
MN has AM divisions available, its just that teams and players need to step up and play them instead of just crowding into the lowest possible division and trying to stay there for life. Most of the AAF guys that would play the Nov division of the MWPPA are reffing, so all the more reason for other people to step up and give it a try.
