On August 25th, 2002, Extreme Paintball held the first ever Lake Superior Cup at Extreme Paintball at |
Spirit Mountain. Teams came from all parts of Minnesota & Wisconsin to participate in the 3-player |
tournament. All games were played on a single air-ball field with reffing provided by Team Firepower. |
Points were accumulated as follows: 15 pts./elim, 15 pts/1st flag pull & 40 pts for a hang. For each |
player eliminated on your team, you lost 3 pts. 100 pts were the maximum for a single game. Each |
team played a round-robin in their respective division with the top 4 teams moving on to the semi's. |

The preliminaries ran quickly and fairly smooth. The Hazmat teams played very strong based on their |
1st and 2nd place preliminary placings. Aggressive teams were rewarded with the 15 point first flag pull |
which would prove crucial for semi-final placement and advancement. In one of the highlights of the day, |
Munster from team Win Inc., pulled off a 'dead-man's walk' for a victory over Team Extreme. This would |
prove critical for Win Inc., as it advanced them into the final position for the semi-finals. In somewhat of |
a surprise, none of the three local teams moved on to the semi-finals with Indecision just missing the cut |
coming in at 9th place. Semi-final scores were as follows: |

With the top 2 teams from each semi-final bracket moving to the finals, every game proved to be vital. |
Hazmat Extreme and Win Inc. secured the top 2 positions for the finals. The third and fourth position |
were each left with ties with required 2 tie-breaking games. The battle for the third position was won by |
the team from Grand Rapids, Full Throttle. They beat the Kickers in the first tie-breaker. The tie-breaker |
for the final position was played between Torment/Synergy and Hazmat with Torment/Synergy coming |
out on top. With the finals now set, the remaining four teams played out the final round-robin. The finals |

The highlights of the finals came down to the final two games. With all placings up in the air after the |
first four games, the results were determined in the final two games. With Torment/Synergy maxing |
their last game over Full Throttle, Win Inc. now had their destiny in their own hands. They had to have |
a perfect game over Hazmat Extreme to secure first. Hazmat Extreme also had a lot up for grabs in the |
final game. Sitting in last place after two of three rounds, 2nd place was amazingly still within reach |
with a win in the last game. After the dust settled in the last game, Hazmat Extreme came out on top |
with a 100-0 max to secure 2nd place. |

Extreme Paintball at Spirit Mountain was very happy with the positive feedback from their first tourney |
and is looking forward to putting on a bigger and better tournament in 2003. They would not have been |
able to put on such a tourney if it wasn't for sponsors such as Coca-Cola. Extreme Paintball would once |
again like to publicly thank them for their generous support. Of course none of this would have been |
possible if it wasn't for the teams that attended and played with good sportsmanship. Thanks again |
and we will see you at next years events. |
